FAQ
-
How many accounts can I create?
You can create up to five free test accounts that will last for 30 days from the time you create them. After that, you can purchase as many paid accounts as you want, or extend any of the test accounts. -
How do I delete an account?
There is a Delete This Account button at the right of all account editing pages.
You cannot delete paid accounts, but you can change the URL you are monitoring at any time, on any of your accounts. -
Will my IT Department know I am monitoring the site?
Is-Your-Site-Running makes its monitoring requests with a very common user-agent header [Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1)], so the likelihood is very low. Of course, if your IT department is actually monitoring the web logs that closely, you can probably trust that they are maintaining your site in good working order! -
How accurate are the reports?
All monitor checks are HTTP requests made from the Google Apps cloud of servers. If Google's servers can't find your site, then it's a good bet nobody else can either.
But not all services, or internet connections, are created equal - it's possible that some visitors cannot get to your site because their office network has temporary problems - or some visitors might be able to see cached versions of your site even when it is offline.
You can rely on Site-Monitor alerts to provide a consistent, user-independent, global standard of reporting the current visitor accessibility of your web site. -
Can I send the reports to a different email address?
At the moment, all reports and alerts are sent to your login email address. We are working on sending to other addresses, but need to lock down the security aspects of that first.
Road Map
This is the Beta release of Is-Your-Site-Running. New features are planned and will be implemented over the next few months.
Here are the current upgrades and enhancements in the pipeline:
-
Local Time Zones.
The default timezone is UTC (Greenwich Mean Time) since our customers are spread globally. You will be able to set your own timezone preferences for each site in the near future. -
Annual and Monthly paid accounts.
The Beta trial period will end at some time in Q3 2010. After that, Is-Your-Site-Running will become a paid application for all GoogleApps business customers. Beta customers will be able to use whatever time is remaining on their beta testing accounts, which will revert to 'manual check only', but these accounts can be extended by signing up for the paid versions. -
Instant Notifications
Planned for early 2011. Instant notifications of downtime, based on an enhanced 60 seconds monitoring. Since this level of monitoring service requires a minimum of 1440 checks per day (over half a million annually), there will be an extra charge for this service. -
iPhone App
Mobile access to your Site-Monitor accounts, with real-time performance data and graphs. -
Google Apps Integration
You will be able to access your Is-Your-Site-Running reports as Google Docs, and see the current status of all your Is-Your-Site-Running accounts in a sidebar widget. -
Is the pricing fixed?
Our aim is to offer the best quality site monitoring for a set annual price per URL. The initial pricing for regular accounts (checks every 5 minutes or more) is $90 per year, and we plan to stick to this - while improving the services, offering more options and configurations, and making changes to the interface and reports in response to our customers needs and suggestions.
At the same time, we plan to introduce some premium services at slightly extra cost, but they will most likely be for specialist installations, SMS notifications, intranet and corporate network monitoring.
Remember, these new features will be available at no extra charge to existing customers.
